Marist announced Thursday night that fifth-year senior shooting guard Dejuan Goodwin was declared academically ineligible per the NCAA standards.

Also, starting point guard R.J. Hall was given an institutional academic suspension of athletics activities by Marist.

Marist coach Chuck Martin said he was hopeful that Hall's issue could be resolved this semester, noting, "Nothing has been definite with R.J. We didn't lose R.J."

Their stars were struggling, but Iona's bench picked the team up in their game against Marist on Sunday.

Mike Glover and Scott Machado each contributed a season-low six points, but Sean Armand set a career high for the second straight game.

He hit a Gaels freshman record six 3-pointers on the way to 22 points in a 79-41 flattening of the Red Foxes.

"In a game when Glove and Scott don't score, for us to beat a league opponent and beat them the way we did with other guys contributing, that's a good sign for us going forward," Gaels coach Tim Cluess said.

Marist defeated Riverdale 65-59 on Sunday to break their 32-game road losing streak.

"The bus ride back home is going to be really nice," sophomore Sam Prescott said. "(Normally) you just sit there thinking about all the things you did wrong. Now, you can look at yourself and think about all you did right."

It was the first time the Red Foxes had won on the road since Dec. 23, 2008. It was the first road win for 10 of the team's 14 members.

"It's a great win for us," Marist redshirt sophomore forward Dorvell Carter said. "It's our first road win. I just felt like it's a big win for us to get us on track."
